Recycle Bikes for Kids is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide one free bike to any kid and to offer adults the opportunity to earn a bike by volunteering.
What We Do
Recycle Bikes for Kids has distributed over 11,000 bikes back into the community since its inception in 2008. We collect bikes through individual donations, community based bike drives and scrapyard donations. Our amazing volunteers fix and shine the bikes to make them ready for their next adventure. We distribute bikes and helmets directly to kids or through community events and organizations. A person 16 years and older can obtain a bike through our “Earn a Bike” Program which requires them to volunteer a set number of hours before choosing a bike to fix for themselves.
Volunteers are the heart of our organization and we wouldn’t exist without them. We have regular open shop hours for individual volunteers and will schedule groups accordingly.
There are many opportunities for volunteers. In addition to repairing bikes, we need people to help around the shop, greet visitors during open hours, check fixed bikes to make sure they’re ready for their next adventure, help at special events, and everything in between. We can match your skills with our needs to make every moment you spend volunteering meaningful. For more information on volunteer opportunities contact us:
Earn a Bike program
The Earn a Bike program allows a person 16 years and older to exchange volunteer hours for a bicycle. Every hour spent helping with some of the many volunteer opportunities available gets you closer to picking out and fixing your own bike! Past participants have used this innovative program to take control of their transportation needs while also providing them with a healthy form of recreation.
